'M' for MySQL in LAMP moving out ?

So if you are a user or a fan of MySQL you may be knowing what happened to MySQL . So lets have a look what happened to MySQL and why so ? . MySQL was the most popular open-source relational database management system. As MySQL , PHP , Apache and Linux was used it came with the pet name LAMP.

MariaDB replacing the M in LAMP

MySQL was originally developed by Michael Widenius and was licenced in a variety of licences. It was an open-source project and was published in 1995 ( As from wiki ). As it was an open-source application and licenced under GPL many people started to use it. I too was one among them. But now I feel sad and I would love to share my thoughts of an open-source application like MySQL. This is not just the case of MySQL  what I was trying to say. MySQL was sold to Sun Microsystems Inc and then Sun was sold to Orcale . So the MySQL too became part of Oracle , the biggest gaint in the RDMS world.

A big application like MySQL needs a lot of works by developers. As its not developed as a properitery application, its hard to get the money. I am sure many of the users who gain money with MySQL , Apache , Linux and PHP are not contributing a small amount for the development of the project. If you are using MSQL or Oracle you will defnitely buy them. Then why can't you give a small amount for the developers who are working on it ? They too have a family . Does developing an application for free feed their family ?

Yes ofcourse open-source is good, so to make the project alive consider donating and promoting the applications . Ok lets move on to what I feel will replace the M in LAMP. I hope you have already guessed it . Yes one among is MariaDB which was developed by the original author of MySQL and some of the community users. MariaDB is an open-source relational database management system which is backward compatible with MySQL. But its just not MariaDB , What about MongoDb ?

MongoDb the next M in LAMP

If you are hearing the name MongoDB for the first time , then its where the web is moving or the technology is moving. MongoDB is a scalable, high-performance, open source, document-oriented database, written in C++ .  The Lithium PHP project may be the first to offer support for the MongoDB.

The other one that's actively developed RDBMS is Drizzle which is developed by some other community users of MySQL, before MySQL was sold to Sun Microsystems. MariaDb started the project when Sun was planning to be taken by Oracle. So good luck oracle for you saved sun . But it seems you have made a huge chages to the website and where ever you can place your logo have placed. Looking the http://mysql.com some days back I feel ... you will either make money with MySQL or you will kill it . Anyway what ever its I wish good luck, for money is needed to run a business, a living for developers.

I love open-source and I have been watching the community and the developers and love to support them. That's the main reason I thought of sharing some of my views inside the project. I will not completely say a properitery system is wrong in every sense ( Some times I think so  ) . But its we ( I / You ) that makes or force the developers to make the properitery system. They too have a family , its not just you to make a living , help them too . I hope my post make you think about this . If you have thought about the situation then I feel proud .
